Intro:

The following exercises are two bar 7/8 exercises. While they focus on simple 7/8
development, like you find in most Progressive Rock & Metal Bands (Dream Theater /
Rush). They also have a poly-metric feel, by design. If played correctly you should get
a two against seven feel. The 2 against seven resolves itself across the two bars..
I've not tried to hide the 7/8 here, so it's can sound a little like the LP is skipping,
but it's interesting none the less.

Since we're working in 7/8 here, the counting is going to change. You maybe more
familiar the more common 4/4 time counting of,

          4/4 8th note counting 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 +

        to,

          7/8 8th note counting 1 2 3 4 5 6 7

This changes since we are now counting each 8th note beat in the 7/8 bar... If you
can't get you mind around that you can always count these exercises 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 if
 that's easier for you.

 Well, Enjoy..

A little trick here is to pronounce 'seven' as 'sev', as sometimes people will count
it as two syllables like 'Sev" "en" rather than just one word.

Aim #1: Try to get comfortable playing each rhythm first, with & without the counting.
If you can do this, try playing it twice, three, four times through or more
        without stopping.

Aim #2: Try for a range of tempos, Start out slowly, (around 80/90 bpm's) then medium
(110 / 120bpm) and fast up to (140/160 bpm's or higher). The objective is make all
the notes sound even. Find a speed that makes each exercise musical !

Aim #3: Try playing each line of exercises, keeping it evenly spaced the entire time.
Next, Try 2 lines, then 3 lines and ultimately the entire lesson from top to
bottom. To take this another step further, you can try playing the exercises
randomly, this will help your reading and visualization skills greatly.
